Future of Cities

From June through October 2015, I worked for New Economy Campaigns (NEC) as the Director of Social Media for Future of Cities (FOC), a nonprofit organization founded by Donna Bojarksy, that envisions cultivating and sustaining innovative leadership in Los Angeles. The organization aims to create a network of civic leaders working together across sectors, cultures and geographies to create a prosperous and livable future for all in our region.

The NEC team implemented a full service digital media campaign and successfully built an online network of engaged and motivated people to purchase tickets for, attend, and discuss the inaugural Future of Cities: Leading in LA event and created the foundation for an ongoing civic engagement campaign. The event was held on October 19th at the Bing Theater at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).

Key achievements: the tickets sold out; #LeadinginLA was trending on Twitter during the event; 500 people attended in person and the event reach approximately 20,000 Angelenos during the week of the event through social media; Future of Cities ranked number one in Google search for the term “future of cites;” Klout score peaked in the 50’s; we had 14,000 page-views on Facebook; close to 5,000 people viewed the website; we grew the email list to 2,700 supporters; and we exceeded expectations for fundraising.

I was lead on designing the digital strategy; the style guide; the content calendars; and social media community management on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I wrote and curated photographs for the blogs and emails; designed and deployed a Facebook ad campaign; coordinated ticket give-away contests; shared press coverage; and produced detailed analytics reports to evaluate the performance of FOC’s digital media presence. In addition, I took photographs and did live posting at both the June 2nd and Oct. 19th Future of Cities events.

Our strategy was focused around milestones such as the June 2nd kick-off event at the Pritzker residence in Beverly Hills with supporters Moby, Michael Govan, Madeleine Brand, Christopher Hawthorne, and others. We shared news about politics, the economy, transportation, housing, sustainability, culture, media, and civic and philanthropic innovation in LA. We posted about our host sponsors LACMA and Los Angeles Magazine; our Co-Chairs including the California Endowment, Disney-ABC Television Group and others; partners such as KCRW, KCET, and MIT Media Labs; and speakers Casey Wasserman, Moby, Carolina Miranda, Mary Melton and many more. The events garnered substantial press coverage in the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Magazine, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter,Huffington Post, LA Observed and other magazines and blogs.

The NEC team was comprised of Catherine Geanuracos, founder of New Economy Campaigns (NEC) and an Advisor and co-chair of Future of Cities: Leading in LA; and Compiler LA, a civic-minded organization website development organization.
